Dental Implant

April 12, 2022

A Dental implant is like a cylinder or screw made of titanium or other biocompatible materials that is surgically placed in the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth.

As the jawbone heals, it grows around the implant over a period of time to hold it firmly in place. The healing process takes about 2 to 3months and is monitored by x-rays.

Once the implant has bonded to the jawbone, a small connector ─ called an abutment ─ is attached to the implant to securely hold the new tooth. To make the new tooth, impressions of your teeth are taken for crown work and a temporary crown placed. The permanent crown is fitted once it is ready.

Because the implant is secured within the jawbone, the replacement tooth looks, feels, and functions just like your own natural teeth.
