WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DENTAL SEALANTS

Take a moment to use your tongue to touch the molars in your mouth.

Notice the crevices and irregularities on the chewing surfaces?

These are called "pits and fissures" and they're highly susceptible to germs and bacteria that build up when food particles (especially sugars), become trapped inside of them.

Dental Sealants are thin coatings painted on the chewing surfaces of the teeth to protect the teeth and prevent cavities from forming.

They are NON-INVASIVE, absolutely SAFE and PAIN FREE!

HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?

Dental sealants can last for several years, if they're well maintained.

During your dental checkups, the dentist will check the sealants to ensure they are still in place and if damaged, can be easily repaired.

WHO SHOULD GET DENTAL SEALANTS?

· Any child who already has permanent molar teeth (this usually begins at the age of 6years).

· It can also be used on children whose "baby" molars have significant grooves or pits on them.

CAN ADULTS GET THEM?

They are not exactly effective in caries prevention in adults because of their higher demanding masticatory functions; there are other preventive measures that are more appropriate for adults.

IMPORTANT NOTICE!!!

Teaching your child to brush and floss his/her teeth each day is the BEST way to prevent cavities and build good oral hygiene habits that can be practiced into adulthood.
