Harmful Effects of Teeth Grinding

October 3, 2022

Teeth grinding or Bruxism is the habit of grinding and clenching the teeth while asleep or awake.

Untreated teeth grinding can lead to serious changes in your bite such as:

·        Flattened teeth

·        Micro-cracks and broken fillings

·        Tooth sensitivity with pain

·        Loose teeth

·        Loss of teeth

·        Gum recession

·        Headache

·        Earache

·        Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD)

Visit your dentist twice a year for a checkup. If you keep to this regular maintenance schedule, your dentist should be able to identify unnatural wear and tear in the early stages before too much damage is done. Treatment possibilities include use of a mouth guard and behavioral or relaxation techniques.
